Installing: ACTS for DOS on DOS platform

Follow the steps:
Step 1: Go to the root directory of hard disk C. type c:
Step 2: Make directory Dosacts in hard disk C. at C:\>, type md Dosacts
Step 3:

Copy the ACTS program from floppy drive A to the Dosacts directory in C, at C:>\, type Windows directory as follows: copy a:DOSacts.exe c:\Dosacts

 

Configuring the ACTS for DOS

Below are the default settings for connecting the computer to the modem:
1 ) Serial Port: COM 1
2 ) Transmission Speed: 9600 bps
3 ) Timezone: UTC + 8hrs (SST)

If your computer settings are the same as the default settings, proceed to Using the ACTS for DOS section.

However, if your computer settings are different from the default settings, please follow the steps below to configure the program.

Follow the steps:
Step 1: From the root directory of C. go to Dosacts directory by typing C:\> cd Dosacts
Step 2: Start the program from the Dosacts directory by typing C:\>Dosacts>DOSacts
Step 3: Press 'e' to configure the communication port. transmission speed and time zone.
Step 4: Select the appropriate settings, depending on your modem connection. If your modem speed is more than 9600bps, select 9600bps.
Step 5: Press 'v' to view the configured settings. The configuration file will be saved as DOSacts.cfg in the C:\>Dosacts> directory.

 

Using: ACTS for DOS

Follow the steps below to run the program. Skip steps 1 and 2 if you are already running the program.

Follow the steps:
Step 1: From the root directory of C, go to Dosacts directory by typing C:\> cd Dosacts
Step 2: Start the program from the Dosacts directory by typing C:\>Dosacts>DOSacts
Step 3: Press 'c' to connect to the ACT server at SPRING.
a) On successful connection, the time difference between the local computer time and SST Is calculated and
displayed. Go to step 4.
b) If It fails, the program will terminate automatically.
Wait for a while and repeat step 2.
Step 4: You will be prompted to adjust the time. Press 'y' If you want to adjust the computer clock and 'n' if you do not wish to do so.
Step 5: Press 'q’ , to close the ACTS program

 

Dial-up Error Codes

If the program fails to connect to the ACTS server, it will return an error message. Table below shows where problems are likely to be found for each type of error.

Installing the ACTS for Windows 95/3.1

Follow the steps below to install the ACTS in your computer hard disk

Follow the steps:
Step 1: Double-click on My Computer on the Desktop.
Step 2: If you have downloaded the ACTS program into the hard disk of your computer, double-click the directory (and sub-directory, if applicable) that contains the ACTS. If the ACTS comes in a floppy disk, double-click on A:. This step displays the program Winacts.exe.
Step 3: Right-click on the Winacts.exe icons. Scroll to Copy and click on it. Go to C: and open Desktop under the Windows directory C:\WINDOWS\DESKTOP
Step 4: Click on Paste under Edit on the menu bar. This will copy the program directly to the Desktop folder.
Step 5: Close all Windows to complete the installation. The "Winacts.exe" icon should appear on your Desktop.

 

Configuring the ACTS for Windows 95/3.1

Below are two default settings for connecting the computer to the modem:
1 ) Serial Port: COM 1
2 ) Transmission Speed: 9600 bps
3 ) Timezone: UTG + 8hrs (Singapore Standard Time)

If your computer settings are the same as the default setting, proceed to Using the ACTS for Windows 95/3.1.

However, if your computer settings are different from the default settings, follow the steps below to configure the program.

Follow the steps:
Step 1: Double-click on Winacts.exe icon on the Desktop to start the program.
Step 2: Click on File ? Configure on the menu bar to configure the communications port.
Step 3:

Select the appropriate settings, depending on your computer connection to the modem. Click OK to initialise the settings.

NOTE: You need to make changes to the three default settings only. Do not change any other setting.

Step 4:

Click on File ? Save Config to save the configuration. The configuration file will be saved as:

         C:\WINDOWS\WINACTS.CFG


Click OK to save the configuration file.

Step 5: Click on File --> Exit to close the program after configuration or continue to use the program by following the steps on Usinq the ACTS for Windows 95/3.1.

 

Using the ACTS for Windows 95/3.1

Follow the steps below to run the program

Follow the steps:
Step 1: Double-click on Winacts.exe icon on the Desktop to start the program. Skip this step if you are already running the program.
Step 2:

Click DialACTS --> Now to dialup to the ACTS server. You will see the time code displayed as follows:

      

Step 3: Click OK if you want the program to reset the computer time. Click Cancel if you do not wish to do so.
Step 4: Click File --> Exit to close ACTS program. If you wish to continue, repeat Steps 1 to 3.

Installing the ACTS for Windows 98

Follow the steps below to install the ACTS in your computer hard disk

Installing the ACTS for Windows NT

The National Metrology Centre shall not be liable to any user for any loss or damage suffered by the user or any other party arising from disruption to the user’s computer or the running of any programme installed therein as a result of using the ACTS, including but not limited to arising of any other programme installed therein.

The ACTS may be disrupted or changed without advance notification and the National Metrology Centre shall not be liable to any user or any other party for any loss or damages suffered as a result.

In the event that National Metrology Centre is found liable for any loss or damage by the operation of law, the National Metrology Centre’s maximum liability to the user or any other party for any claim shall be limited to S$1.00.

The ACTS may be disrupted or changed without advance notification.
